Mastermind

Characteristics of a Mastermind

A mastermind is a small, curated peer group where members commit to working on each other’s businesses or projects over an extended period. The main value isn’t the curriculum — it’s the room. Carefully selected peers, structured discussion formats, and a host who facilitates rather than teaches make a mastermind feel less like a course and more like a confidential boardroom.

Membership is intentionally limited and often application-based. New members are admitted by invitation or after vetting. Once in, they get access to a private community, regular hot-seat sessions, in-person retreats and a tightly curated resource library. Drop-off is rare; renewal rates are high.

Monetization Strategy

Masterminds are premium-priced — often four- or five-figure annual fees per member — and revenue is highly recurring. Cohorts run for twelve months at a time, with retention driven by relationships, status and outcomes. Operators frequently layer “alumni” tiers on top so departing members can stay engaged at a lower price point.

Live events are a meaningful revenue and retention lever. An annual in-person retreat (or two) is often the centrepiece of the offer, justifying the premium fee and bonding members for the year ahead.

Upsell Opportunities

  • VIP tier: A higher-priced inner circle with smaller hot-seat groups and direct access to the host.
  • Annual retreats & events: Sell premium in-person retreats, off-sites and curated experiences.
  • Done-with-you intensives: Paid 1:1 or small-group sprints to solve a specific business problem.
  • Alumni continuity: A graduate community for former members who want ongoing access at a reduced rate.
